and well-being of the Cane Corso breed by following our short-list of do's and don'ts:
DO consider purchasing a puppy from a reputable breeder - start with the
CCAA
Breeders Guild.
DO verify that both the sire and dam have passed OFA - you can
search OFA records
online.
DO visit the breeder, meet all their dogs, ask to see championship
certificates, titles earned, etc.
DO read and approve of the breeder's contract and deposit terms - before
giving them any money!
DO consider fostering and/or adopting a puppy or adult from a reputable
rescue organization.
DON'T go to a pet store to buy a Cane Corso puppy - in fact, don't shop
there if they sell puppies!
DON'T look in the classified ads for a Cane Corso puppy, a sign of
a "backyard breeder."
DON'T buy a puppy from a breeder who breeds more than several breeds, a sign
of a "puppy mill."
DON'T purchase a puppy from someone who does nothing but breed dogs to earn
their living.
DON'T be in such a hurry to come home with a puppy that you let it interfere
with your best judgment.
